Inevitable Landmarks for Inclination of Occlusal Plane in Completely Edentulous Patients- A Literature Review | Chapter 4 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 9
Background: In traditional prosthodontic rehabilitation, establishing the occlusal plane is a critical step in restoring occlusal contact to its original state in the context of a harmonic stomatognathic system. The orientation of the occlusal plane similar to the natural location of the occlusal plane will achieve the perfect position of artificial teeth in complete dentures in the same position as natural teeth. This review examines the basic concepts and significance of the occlusal plane, as well as various anatomical landmarks associated with the occlusal plane's orientation, in order to achieve functional, mechanical, and aesthetic rehabilitation of completely edentulous patients using various treatment options such as a conventional complete denture, maxillofacial prosthesis, and implant-supported partial denture.
