Breast Lipomodelling Outcome Following Conservative Breast Cancer Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery in a District Hospital | Chapter 13 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 9

Lipomodelling has recently become more popular for correcting flaws and asymmetry after oncologic breast cancer treatment [1]. The current evidence on the efficacy of breast reconstruction using lipomodelling following breast cancer treatment is insufficient, and there are no substantial safety issues [2]. For both safety and efficacy, we verified our outcome results against the NICE guidelines. All lipomodelling cases performed in Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust between 04/2011 and 04/2013 were analysed retrospectively. The trial involved 36 patients, with an average volume of fat injected of 113.91mls each session. The Cytori approach had the lowest rate of problems at 11%, compared to 44% and 45% for Coleman and body jet techniques, respectively. The number of sessions for each patient, the length of hospital stay, and the amount of fat collected and injected in each patient all fulfilled the NICE guidelines criteria. Investigation on Complementary Medicine Intervention in Breast Cancer Patients with Pain | Chapter 5 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 7

 The goal of this study was to look into a five-week complementary medicine intervention called mindfulness-based intervention (MBSR) in breast cancer patients who were suffering from chronic pain. Pain is the most debilitating and chronic symptom that cancer patients face. For the first time, psychological pain inflexibility, pain self-efficacy, and expressive suppression were studied in breast cancer patients suffering from cancer-related pain. Pre- and post-intervention design in one group. The study took place in the spring of 2010 at a medical centre in Lubbock, Texas. Methodology: The sample comprised of 46 participants, with 36 women in stage II (78%) and 10 women in stage III (22%) with an average age of 55 years. Aims: The purpose here was to investigate for the first time effects following five-weeks of a complementary medicine intervention or mindfulness-based intervention (MBSR) in cancer patients with chronic pain. Specifically, psychological inflexibility in pain, pain self-efficacy, and expressive suppression were investigated for the first time in breast cancer patients with cancer-related pain. Study Design: One group pre-post intervention design. Place and Duration of Study: Lubbock, Tx medical center, spring 2010. Methodology: Sample: The sample consisted of 46 participants with 36 women in stage II (78%) and 10 (22%) in stage III with a mean age of 55 years.
