Determining the 94Ins/DelATTG Promoter Polymorphism in the Transcription Factor NF-Kb in Patients with Popliteal Aneurysm | Chapter 18 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 14
Popliteal aneurysms, which account for 85 percent of all peripheral aneurysms, have a poor prognosis and a high rate of amputation. Until date, it was considered that the -94Ins/DelATTG promoter polymorphism in the transcription factor NFB was implicated in its pathogenesis. The goal of this study was to see how this genetic mutation affected patients with popliteal aneurysm. The study included 48 patients with popliteal aneurysm (44 males, average age 74.5 years) and 49 healthy controls (19 males, average age 51.5 years). Each patient's duplex sonographic diagnosis of a popliteal aneurysm was confirmed by CT angiography. When the diameter of the damaged vessel was at least 15 mm, popliteal aneurysms were diagnosed. The diagnosis of popliteal aneurysm was ruled out in the control group by duplex examination.
