Improvement of Power System Performance Using Fuzzy Logic Based Interline Power Flow Controller [IPFC]: A Brief Study | Chapter 10 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol. 8

  This research created a nonlinear dynamic model of a multi machine power system with an Interline Power Flow Controller [IPFC] to increase damping of power system oscillations and transient stability. The IPFC performance of PI controllers is compared to that of a fuzzy logic-based controller under normal and abnormal operation situations. Many-valued logic is a subset of fuzzy logic. The IPFC fuzzy controller is designed to coordinate two control inputs: voltage change and capacitor voltage change, in order to increase the multimachine system's transient stability. The Interline Power Flow Controller [IPFC] with fuzzy logic controller is built with simple fuzzy rules to coordinate the additional damping signal. A Study of Student’s Academic Performance Using Artificial Intelligence: A Fuzzy Logic Approach | Chapter 11 | Innovations in Science and Technology Vol. 7

  Student academic performance evaluation consists of various components, each of which is dependent on the amount of imprecise judgments resulting from human (teacher/tutor) interpretation. In this Book chapter, we investigate the applicability of fuzzy logic and fuzzy expert systems to the problem of allocating new students to homogeneous groups of defined maximum capacity, and we examine the effects of such allocations on students' academic performance. The book chapter also introduces a Dynamic Fuzzy Expert System model based on a Fuzzy set and Regression analysis that is capable of dealing with imprecision and missing data that is usually inherited in student academic performance evaluation. Using the fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm, this model automatically converts crisp sets to fuzzy sets. Prediction of Concrete Compressive Strength in Buildings that would be Reinforced by Fuzzy Logic | Chapter 03 | Theory and Applications of Physical Science Vol. 2

In this study, core samples were taken from column or reinforced wall in order to make reinforcement or restoration. The effect of the element height and volume of voids of these samples to the compressive strength were investigated. C25 type ready to use concrete was used and a column without steel was produced. During the production process, 15 cm reference cube samples were taken from the fresh concrete. After 28 days, 8 cores from reference cubes and 128 samples from column were taken and their compressive strengths were determined. As a result, the average compressive strength of the reference core samples was 36.95 Mpa and according to the height compressive strengths of other samples was ranging between 37.3 and 43.0 Mpa. The ratio of the increasing of the compressive strength changes between 0.95 and 16.37% according to the reference sample. The two major technical challenges facing widespread deployment of microgrids are the impacts of microsources and active loads on control instruments and protective devices. Classical protective devices operate through detection and response. Detection is performed by measuring parameters of the system and comparing with set values. Response is performed through isolation of faulted segment if the result of comparison dictates isolation. These classical protective devices as well as modified classical devices reported in literature malfunction under complex operating conditions of microgrids that have multiple controls regimes and are capable of grid interconnection and islanding.
