Study about Water-energy Nexus in the Island of Crete, Greece | Chapter 13 | Novel Perspectives of Engineering Research Vol. 8

  Water and energy are both vital resources in today's cultures. Their global need is expanding, and they are interrelated and interlinked. The current endeavour aims to investigate the energy system in Crete, as well as the island's water resources, as well as their interdependencies, interlinkages, and synergies. The use of water in the generation of electricity and the manufacturing of fuel is examined, as is the use of electricity in water pumping, transportation, processing, and distribution. According to our findings, the yearly electricity usage in Crete is 4,793 KWh/capita, whereas the annual water consumption ranges from 763.9 M3/capita to 962.2 M3/capita. A Case Report on Significant Improvement of Age-Related Macular Degeneration with Melanin Precursors (QIAPI 1®)| Chapter 4 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 7

In the last 70 years or more, age-related macular degeneration has been the leading cause of blindness in cold nations. The core section of the retina, the inside rear layer of the eye that records the images we see and transfers them via the optic nerve from the eye to the brain, deteriorates in Macular Degeneration. Despite costly therapy options such as intraocular injections, the incidence and prevalence of ARMD have not changed considerably in recent years. We show in this case report that melanin is a critical component of macular biology, and that once it is addressed, morphological and functional recovery is significant. The transportation sector consumes more than two-thirds of oil supplies in the United States each year and accounts for approximately one-third of the United States carbon dioxide emissions. A draft of the Fourth U.S. Climate Action Report states that the current United States climate policy will culminate in the emission of 9.2 billion tons of greenhouse gases in 2020, which represents a 19 percent increase from 2000 levels. Reflections on the Use of Density Functional Theory in the Understanding of the Effects of Moderate Amounts of Sulfur Substitutional Impurities on ZnO | Chapter 06 | New Advances in Materials Science and Engineering Vol. 1

A theoretical study on the effects of a moderate amount of sulfur when used as substituent impurity in place of oxygen in zinc oxide at its crystal form using Density Functional Theory (DFT). S-substituent amounts in percent go from 0.1% up to 1.0% and we analyze modifications in the crystal properties such as lattice characteristics, total energy, and gap energy. Lattice parameter c increased slightly as S-substituent percent increased, lattice parameter a had an opposite behavior because it decreased as the S-substituent increased and c/a rate had ups and downs but with very slight variation between consecutive values. Total energy calculations showed an increasing trend at all times and binding energy showed a decreasing trend at all times as the substituent percent increase but the variation between consecutive points was small.
