In most patients, a deviated nasal septum is accompanied with compensatory hypertrophy of the contralateral inferior nasal turbinate after a period of time. This is a compensating mechanism that keeps air from entering the contralateral nose too much. The problem was formerly treated with septoplasty, but the majority of patients continued to experience nasal blockage due to hypertrophy of the inferior nasal turbinate, necessitating therapy. The goal of this chapter was to determine the cause of hypertrophy, as well as the causes of hypertrophy not reversing once the Nasal septum, which was the source of hypertrophy, was corrected, as well as the indications and best treatment choice for the problem.
