A Systematic Review of the Literature on Veterans' Unanticipated Medical Retirement and Transition to Civilian Life | Chapter 5 | Selected Topics in Humanities and Social Sciences Vol. 6
Despite the fact that there is literature on the impact of unexpected medical retirement on veterans' transition to civilian life, there has been no systematic review of this literature by veterans. This systematic evaluation of literature looked into the impact of veterans' UMR on their transition to civilian life. Based on the application of a search strategy devised on the basis of six criteria for inclusion in accordance with the research phenomena, the researcher chose 15 papers for the systematic review. A summary of the included research revealed three key topics on the influence of veterans' UMR on transfer to civilian life: transition concerns (with two sub-themes of female veterans and identity), work experience, and sources of support. The findings of the review, which are based on a synthesis of contemporary literature, contribute to the body of knowledge on veterans' recovery.
