Properties of the Oil Heat-Treated 10 and 15 Years-old Cultivated Tectona Grandis | Chapter 7 | New Visions in Science and Technology Vol. 1
Oil heat treatment was used on ten (10) and fifteen (15) year-old cultivated Tectona grandis (teak) to see if their qualities improved. The middle section of T. grandis was chosen and treated for 2 hours at 160oC, 200oC, and 240oC. Based on their physical and mechanical qualities, the study compared the effectiveness of treated and non-treated T. grandis. Moisture content, maximum density, basic density, and volumetric shrinkage were among the physical tests conducted. The modulus of elasticity (MOE) and modulus of rupture were the focus of the static bending strength test (MOR). The compression test was performed parallel to the grain of the wood (MOR). The physical properties of oil-heated T. grandis are better than untreated wood, although their mechanical properties are slightly reduced.
