Prospective Study of Globe Rupture Subcategory of Open Globe Injuries in Pediatric Population | Chapter 1 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 13

The goal of this study is to look into the clinical profile and effects of globe rupture, which is a subclass of open globe ocular trauma in children, according to the Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology System. This prospective cohort analysis included all paediatric ocular trauma patients with mechanical eye injury who were enrolled at the ocular trauma care centre between 2007 and 2019. The data was collected through our online MIS using the International Ocular Trauma Society form, and the details were exported to an Excel document. With the help of SPSS 2, the data were statistically evaluated using univariate analysis and cross tabulation. The results showed that 7546 (59.4%) of the 12687 patients with mechanical ocular trauma had open globe injuries, while 5328 (41.9%) had closed globe injuries. 818 (10.8 percent) of the former were diagnosed with globe rupture, while 417 (51 percent) were in the paediatric age group (0–18 years).
