Determining the 94Ins/DelATTG Promoter Polymorphism in the Transcription Factor NF-Kb in Patients with Popliteal Aneurysm | Chapter 18 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 14
Popliteal aneurysms, which account for 85 percent of all peripheral aneurysms, have a poor prognosis and a high rate of amputation. Until date, it was considered that the -94Ins/DelATTG promoter polymorphism in the transcription factor NFB was implicated in its pathogenesis.
The goal of this study was to see how this genetic mutation affected patients with popliteal aneurysm.
The study included 48 patients with popliteal aneurysm (44 males, average age 74.5 years) and 49 healthy controls (19 males, average age 51.5 years). Each patient's duplex sonographic diagnosis of a popliteal aneurysm was confirmed by CT angiography. When the diameter of the damaged vessel was at least 15 mm, popliteal aneurysms were diagnosed. The diagnosis of popliteal aneurysm was ruled out in the control group by duplex examination. Comorbidities included smoking history, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipoproteinemia (HLP), hyperuricemia, coronary heart disease (CHD), and cancer. The -94Ins/DelATTG p for the NFB polymorphism
The id genotype of the -94Ins/DelATTG polymorphism was the most often encountered genotype with 50.5 percent (46.9 percent in the control group versus 54.2 percent in patients with popliteal aneurysm). With 35.1 percent (36.7 percent in the control group versus 33.3 percent in patients with popliteal aneurysm), genotype ii came in second, followed by genotype dd with 14.4 percent (16.3 percent in the control group versus 12.5 percent in patients with a popliteal aneurysm). However, there was no discernible difference in genotype distribution. In terms of allele distribution, the control group had 60.2 percent allele I and patients with a popliteal aneurysm had 60.4 percent allele i. There were no significant differences in allele d in 39.8 percent of the control group and 39.6 percent of patients with a popliteal aneurysm. Only male gender and smoking were shown to be associated with popliteal aneurysm in binary logistic regression analysis, but not for the -94Ins/ DelATTG genotypes.
Conclusion: There were no significant changes in the geno distributions of the -94Ins/DelATTG polymorphism with respect to the diagnosis of popliteal aneurysms, in contrast to male gender and smoking habits.
