Determination of Mayfield's Scalp Clamp Application during Craniotomies; Everything we Should Know | Chapter 12 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 13
Most craniotomies now require the use of Mayfield's scalp clamp, however it has potentially dangerous hemodynamic pressor consequences. Many therapies have been tested to reduce these effects, including infiltration of local anaesthetics at insertion sites or injections of ketamine, dexmedetomidine, clonidine, and magnesium sulphate (MgSO4). Using previously published studies, this chapter tries to illustrate the efficacy of these approaches.
Finally, these unwanted pressor effects can be reduced or even eliminated by using one modality or a combination of two or more.
