Determining the Effect of 1, 3, 5-trimethyl-2, 6-diphenyl Piperidin-4-one Oxime on the Electrochemical Behaviour of Mild Steel in HCl Medium | Chapter 6 | Challenges and Advances in Chemical Science Vol. 4

The corrosion inhibitory capacity of a synthetic heterocyclic molecule, namely 1, 3, 5-trimethyl-2, 6-diphenyl piperidin-4-one oxime, was evaluated using weight loss experiments, electrochemical methods, and SEM examinations in 1M hydrochloric acid (HCl) media against mild steel (MS) (TPO). The weight loss studies were conducted at three different temperatures for two hours at different concentrations: 30°C, 40°C, and 50°C (0, 25, 50, 100, 200, and 300 ppm). According to the findings, increasing TPO concentration showed a positive correlation with inhibitory efficiency, however rising temperature had a negative correlation. On mild steel surfaces, TPO physically adsorbs. Temkin's isotherm was followed. Electrochemical parameters such as corrosion potential (Ecorr), corrosion current (icorr), and Tafel slopes were determined using the Tafel plot (ba & bc). According to the findings, TPO decreases corrosion current and serves as a mixed mode inhibitor. Using the AC impedance measurement established by the Nyquist plot, the charge transfer resistance (Rct) and double layer capacitance (Cdl) were computed, with the results complementing each other. SEM investigations confirmed TPO's potential to form films in HCl media. Rct values increased as TPO concentration increased, indicating that TPO is a good inhibitor.
