Wound Healing Potential of GTN in Wistar Rats | Chapter 10 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 3

The goal of this study was to see how effective Glyceryl trinitrate is at healing wounds in wistar rats.


Materials and Methods: We took 18 male wistar rats and separated them into three groups, each with six rats. Glyceryl trinitrate, Ointment base, Control (Normal saline). The nape of their necks were shaved, they were fasted overnight, and surgery was performed the next day under general anaesthesia. With a scalpel blade, a 500 mm2 circular excisional wound was formed. Since the next day of wounding, Glyceryl trinitrate, control, and ointment base have been applied topically. On the 6th, 10th, y, and 14th days, the wound was traced with polythene paper and the area was measured with a planimeter.

The wound contraction and the duration of epithelization were the two characteristics evaluated. In comparison to control, glyceryl trinitrate showed a statistically significant difference in wound contraction. Glyceryl trinitrate considerably shortened the time it took for epithelization compared to the Control and Ointment base treatment groups.

Cassava is consumed in many tropical countries and is fast becoming the major raw material of many diets, especially in the bakery, brewery and pharmaceutical industries. In a study to determine the effects of various formulations of Cassava feeds on blood lipid profile in rats. Forty adult Wistar rats weighing between 120 and 150 g were divided into 4 groups of 10 rats each. The rats were acclimatized for one week; fed with different formulations of Cassava feeds adlibitum, after which the rats were allotted into groups.  Traditional Medicine Practitioners (TMPs) of Côte d'Ivoire are familiar with the therapeutic herbs. Medicinal plants have been shown to be useful in the treatment of common diseases such as malaria (KROA, 2004) and diabetes (N'GUESSAN et al, 2013) in several studies and scientific study. In the Abidjan District, the current policy is to integrate traditional medicine and pharmacopoeia into the national health system in order to improve population health coverage, particularly in the management of commonly encountered diseases such as malaria, ENT diseases, diarrhoea, typhoid fever, and anaemia.
