A Case Series on Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of Esophagus | Chapter 5 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 3
NENs (neuroendocrine neoplasms) are a diverse group of tumours with a neuroendocrine character. They range from well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) to aggressive neuroendocrine carcinomas with poor differentiation (NECs). Esophageal neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) are an uncommon and aggressive kind of esophageal carcinoma that mainly affects the lower oesophagus and has positive neuroendocrine immunohistochemistry markers. The most prevalent gastrointestinal symptoms of esophageal NECs are dysphagia and/or stomach pain. They have the potential to spread to other parts of the body. The current case series outlines the most recent classification of esophageal neuroendocrine neoplasms. All of the patients have dysphagia and ulcerative development patterns, as well as positive neuroendocrine immunohistochemistry markers.
