A Study on Green Synthesis of Nano Cu Compounds (Malachite and Rouaite), Using Moringa oleifera Leaf Extract and their Photocatalytic, Antifungal, Anti-Inflammatory, and Antioxidant Properties | Chapter 9 | New Innovations in Chemistry and Biochemistry Vol. 2
X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopic analysis were used to characterise the structure and morphology of nano copper compounds (Malachite and Rouaite) synthesised with Moringa oleifera leaf extract as the reducing agent. Malachite has several peaks in its UV-vis absorption study, and the energy bandgap derived from the Taue plot was 5.32 eV for Malachite and 3.7 eV for Rouaite. Malachite and Rouaite photoluminescence spectra reveal extensive emission in the green part of the visible spectrum. With the natural dye of beetroot (Beta vulgaris) extract, the photocatalytic activity of Malachite and Rouaite was investigated, and it was discovered that the dye's absorption peak intensity decreases as the time of exposure to sunlight increases, indicating that the synthesised samples degrade. By using the agar disc diffusion method to test the antifungal activity of Malachite and Rouaite against Candida albicans, it was discovered that Rouaite has more enhanced antifungal activity than Malachite. As a result, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties of green produced Rouaite and Malachite have been suggested for use in medicine.
