Impact of Random Pointing Errors on Coherent Laser Radar Efficiency and Scintillation Index: A Theoretical Overview | Chapter 13 | Newest Updates in Physical Science Research Vol. 11
The size of the objective is crucial. The transmitter and receiver are never misaligned with the target when operating against an effectively indefinitely broad target, regardless of the size of the pointing error. We assume matching elliptical Gaussian transmit, ‘t,' and BPLO, ‘b,' along the x and y axes, with e(-2) irradiance radii, _x and _y. We additionally assume an elliptical diffuse Gaussian target, f‘ T', centred at the origin, with the peak power reflectance function _0 (sr), and the e(-2) radii _Tx and _Ty. When building new coherent ladar systems, the formulas presented here may be useful in determining tolerances. The knowledge gained from studying Gaussian beam ladar is anticipated to aid in the development of improved sensors and a better understanding of current system behaviour.
