Research on Adsorption of Chromium (VI) from Wastewater by Anion Exchange Resin | Chapter 3 | Challenges and Advances in Chemical Science Vol. 4
It was investigated if a strong anion exchange resin (Spectra/Gel IE 1x8) could be used as an adsorbent to efficiently remove Cr(VI) ions from synthetic wastewater solutions. In batch testing, Cr(VI) ions concentrations ranged from 25 to 300 mg/L. Various parameters influencing Cr(VI) adsorption were examined, including solution pH, Cr(VI) and adsorbent concentrations, and contact time. Cr(VI) was satisfactorily maintained by the resin, according to the findings. Equilibrium was obtained in 30 minutes for starting Cr(VI) concentrations up to 100 mg/L. Both the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were used to fit the equilibrium data for Cr(VI) adsorption, however the Langmuir isotherm model was demonstrated to be more accurate. with a 173.8 mg/g maximum adsorption capacity Second order kinetics governed the adsorption process. The resin was regenerated using 4M NaOH as an eluent after three regeneration cycles and retained a Cr(VI) adsorption efficacy of more than 83 percent.
