Study on Advancements in Neuromodulation | Chapter 1 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 9
Patients with full paralysis can now regain motor function because to recent advances in neuromodulation, such as spinal cord stimulation and neuromuscular stimulation in spinal cord injury. These new research were discussed in this mini-review, and plausible mechanisms of such motor recovery were examined, as well as approaches to optimise neuromodulation for function restoration. Furthermore, because complete paralysis is usually incurable, recent neuromodulation research in spinal cord injury has opened up new prospects for neuromodulation to treat other incurable conditions like Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. This mini-review went on to discuss ways to unleash the full potential of neuromodulation to achieve significant clinical effectiveness and reduce adverse effects in the reestablishment of physiological homeostasis, with the goal of curing patients with incurable diseases and alleviating their suffering.
