Treatment of Odontogenic Cutaneous Sinus Tract Misdiagnosed for 6 Years: A Case Study | Chapter 3 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 13
Misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment of
cutaneous odontogenic fistulas or sinus tracts is common, resulting in
unnecessary treatments and patient misery. Understanding how cutaneous sinus
tracts drain will lead to more effective therapy, with the source of infection
eliminated and the risk of consequences reduced [1].
The majority of cases respond to nonsurgical root canal treatment.
Our goal is to describe a 6-year-old cutaneous sinus tract that developed as a
result of a chronic periapical dental infection caused by previous trauma.
Despite the fistula's age, careful treatment of the causative teeth was
adequate to promote healing.
