Uni-lateral Atalla Distalizing Appliance Assisted by Miniscrew Anchorage | Chapter 14 | New Frontiers in Medicine and Medical Research Vol. 13
Introduction: The clinical and laboratory approaches for fabricating a device for rectifying unilateral Class II molar relationship were described. A case report demonstrated the clinical application of the Uni-lateral Atalla Distalizing (UAD) appliance. The advantages and disadvantages of the device were thoroughly explored.
Materials and Methods: The palatal Temporary Anchorage Device (TAD) was implanted at the resistance centres of the front molars. On the Class II side, the appliance is attached to the lingual sheath of the maxillary molar's band, extending as far anteriorly as possible parallel to the mid-palatal raphe. The lingual sheath was tightened with the distal end of the same wire, while the mesial end was used as a hook into which the NiTi coil spring was put.
In the clinical application, a Class I molar and canine connection was established. Overjet and overbite were both within reasonable bounds. On the post-treatment panoramic radiograph, the tooth roots appeared to be pretty parallel. In the post-treatment panoramic radiograph, the tooth roots were parallel, and the supporting tissues were healthy. The skeletal measurements on the post-treatment cephalometric radiograph showed no significant changes after therapy. Conclusion: Because the UAD appliance has been found to be effective in treating unilateral molar Class II malocclusion, it is recommended for clinical use when appropriate.
